The Efficiency Paradox: Which AI Tasks Pay Off and Which Don't?

The industry is currently caught between two extremes. On one hand, we are seeing specialized "Decision AI" models like Jev and GLiNER2.5-Decide move away from conversational fluff to provide structured, high-speed data extraction. On the other, agentic workflows are hitting a wall of "hallucinated success," where models like those highlighted by Hugging Face researchers confidently report task completion despite failing to actually update underlying databases.

This divergence creates a clear efficiency paradox. While tools like Microsoft’s MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming or Aleph Alpha’s Kolibri offer massive gains in raw operational speed and localized performance, the actual reliability of autonomous agents remains questionable. Whether it is IBM’s Bob agents operating in air-gapped environments or the shift toward "proactive" agents that initiate communication, we are spending increasing amounts of time verifying outputs that were supposed to be "set and forget."

What we're arguing about

  1. Have you successfully integrated agentic workflows for complex tasks, or do you find the "reliability gap" between an agent's self-reported progress and actual database execution too high to trust for production?
  2. Does the move toward "Decision AI"—which prioritizes structured, typed outputs over natural language generation—actually improve your daily output, or is it just another layer of configuration to maintain?
  3. Between proactive agents that interrupt your workflow and specialized tools for specific tasks like coding or transcription, which category has actually returned hours to your week, and which has simply created more "management overhead"?

Share your specific experience with which tasks you have fully offloaded to AI and which ones you have stopped trying to automate entirely.
