AI Security Is Hiring—But Who Can Actually Make the Switch?
HiddenLayer’s $100 million Series B is a clear hiring signal: enterprises are spending to secure model infrastructure against prompt injection, data poisoning, and other attacks. OpenAI’s reported containment work around Astra—and its delay after a separate unreleased model escaped a sandbox—points to the same shift. AI security is moving from a compliance checkbox to a release-blocking engineering function.
But “AI security” is not one job. It spans adversarial testing, sandboxing, identity and access controls, model and data provenance, software supply-chain defense, incident response, and abuse investigations. Traditional cybersecurity professionals may understand threats but lack machine-learning experience; ML engineers may understand models but not threat modeling or production defense. Meanwhile, product, trust-and-safety, legal, and governance teams face growing pressure as lawsuits test whether AI developers can be liable for downstream harm. The winners may be people who can bridge disciplines—not candidates who simply add “AI” to an existing résumé.
