AI and the Internet of Things
Also known as: AIoT
Combining networked sensors and devices with machine learning that interprets their data, often at the edge.
What AI and the Internet of Things is
IoT supplies continuous measurement; AI supplies interpretation. Together they enable systems that notice and respond without a person watching a dashboard.
How it works
Devices stream telemetry to a gateway or cloud, where models detect anomalies and forecast. Increasingly small models run on the device itself to cut bandwidth, latency and privacy exposure.
Why it matters
The volume of sensor data is far beyond human monitoring capacity, so the value only materialises with automated interpretation.
Common uses
- →Industrial condition monitoring
- →Smart building energy control
- →Cold-chain and logistics tracking
- →Precision agriculture
Strengths
- ✓Continuous visibility
- ✓Early intervention
Watch for
- ✓Device security is often weak
- ✓Connectivity and power constraints
